Daily Targets

Today I created a fun and easy game that could very possibly create more productivity and money in your life. It's called the Daily Targets Game. Before I get into the details of the game let me ask you some questions first. I'd like to invite you to take 5 or 10 minutes to really sit and consider these questions and see what comes up for you. If you'd like you can write down your responses and answer as honestly as you can. This will bring you an awareness of how you currently function in relation to being productive and getting things done.

1)When you have a lot to do, what is your method of making sure you get it done? A To Do list? Setting goals? Using a planner?
2)How effective is your method in your life right now? Is it working for you?
3)How often do you successfully accomplish your daily goals?
4)How often do you fall short of your daily goals?
5)How does it make you feel when you achieve your goals?
6)How does it make you feel when you fall short of them?
7)When you fall short, how does that affect your mood, energy, day, life? Do you get frustrated? Do you take it out on other people? Do you go into overload mode and not accomplish anything at all?

Personally, I was horrendous at being productive. I would get so excited for everything I wanted to get done but I quickly became frustrated and overwhelmed. It was easier for me to eat a bowl of cereal, watch a silly cat video on Youtube, and stare blankly at the wall, than it was for me to even attempt to get things done. I was a professional avoider. Avoiding things was one of the many skills I picked up from childhood. Every so often I would make a To Do List. The problem was that I would never look at it. It was usually written on a loose scrap of paper and I would easily lose it. I was bad at being productive but I was even worse at saving money, yet another skill I picked up from my youth. After years of practice, I eventually became an expert at spending more than I was saving. I always wanted to put aside some money in a separate account and not touch it as a rainy day fund or something like that. It would have been nice to take 10% out of my paycheck each week but I was never inspired to do it. Just the thought of it was so boring so I would always forget.

So this morning I received a flash of genius that would combine both productivity and saving money in a way that is actually fun and interesting. I call it the Daily Targets Game. I'll explain why I call them targets and not goals or tasks or “to dos.” According to Gary Douglas, the Founder of Access Consciousness, setting goals actually keeps us locked in a state of unproductivity, almost like being thrown in jail. In fact in Australia and Scotland the word jail is spelled Gaol, it's even in the dictionary. A goal we set for ourselves locks us into a future of no choice. For a better explanation, click here to read a fascinating article on the topic from the Access Consciousness blog. The word Target is a much better choice. It's easily changeable and you can keep shooting at it until you hit.

So this is how the game works!

1)Get a special notebook and label it, Daily Targets.
2)Write the date at the top of the page and with a marker draw little boxes that you can easily check off.
3)Start writing down your targets for the day. Targets are whatever you desire to create or accomplish for that particular day.
4)Assign each Target a point value. It can be whatever you want. To keep it simple today, each of my targets are equivalent to 1 point. Maybe you want to make harder Targets worth more points. For example maybe taking out the trash would be 1 point and going to the Dentist would be 10 points. I don't know, it's your game so make it yours and make it fun!
5)Pick a start and end for your game week. I chose to start my game week on Monday and end it on Sunday. Choose whatever works for you.
6)Keep track of the points you earn each day. At the end of the game week count up all your points. That number is the amount of money that you would put away in a super special bank account every week. Maybe you'll take it out of a weekly paycheck. Maybe you'll take it out of an existing bank account or the stash of money you keep under your mattress. Again this is all totally up to you.

BONUS: Enhance the game by constantly asking yourself wealth generating questions such as:

1)What can I be, do, have, create and generate today that would create and generate money now and in the future?
2)What would it take for an abundance of money to flow into my life?
3)What could I be to create infinite possibilities?
4)How can it get any better than this?
5)OR MAKE UP YOUR OWN!

So that's how you play the Daily Targets Game. I hope you choose to do this on a regular basis. If you do, I'm pretty sure you'll experience a heck of a lot more productivity, money, happiness and joy in your life. How can it get any better than that? I want to know what you think of the game. Please send me an e-mail. Especially if you are using this and getting results, I want to hear about it. You can also send me a video testimonial on the Youtubes. It is my pleasure to share this powerful new tool with you. We will all be growing, creating and expanding into infinite possibilities together.

With Ease, Joy, and Glory,

Rob Gegner

PS: Here are some tips that will make this game more effective for you. It's easy to look at this as just another To Do list and treat these targets like the goals we have chased for so long but never accomplished. Simply changing the name from goals to targets will keep you stuck in the same patterns as before. A shift in perception is required. Looking at this as a joy will help change the energy around it so that it will be easier for you to hit your desired targets. For example, don't feel so obligated to hit a certain target that would create an immense amount of pressure on yourself. Also, avoid feeling guilty, angry or shameful if you don't hit a target. Try to cultivate excitement and willingness around hitting your targets. A strong desire, a light heart, and a positive, fun-loving attitude will yield the best results. And don't forget to have fun with it, being more productive in life does not require you to be so serious or stressed out. I hope this helps.
